Now wireless mouse are very popular among users that hate their 'tail'. But problem of this mouse, they need 'stored power' to operate like batteries. Are you bored with ordinary wireless optical mouse that consume too much battery power? Or being lazy to change the battery or buy a new ones? A4Tech has solution on this problem. With their product named Battery Free mouse, this NB-XX series operate without battery but cordless. What's the secret behind this technology? We will discovered it here.

Induction phenomenon is the main theory that used in this application. Although the mouse doesn't have it's own power store, it still requires power. This manufacturer design the mouse with the mouse pad will supply the power to the mouse using the induction theory. Induction is the process by which charge is created in a conductor by the presence of and movement through an electric field. Commonly this is done by using a tightly wound coil of wire, placed adjacent to another coil that is electrically charged. So, the mouse is powered by the charged coil that is inside the mouse pad, via it's own inlaid coil, whenever you move it. The mouse pad powers come from the USB cable that attached to your PC.

For the operation, this mouse operate same like other optic mouse using standard optical pickup and RFID for transmission. The mouse pad operation voltage is 5V at 90mA. At this voltage, it is easy to transmit the power and voltage from the pad to the mouse via induction coil and the capacitor will collect the charge from the coil. This will not interference the RFID  a sensor as the manufacturer claim in their official site.
